This free, family-friendly street festival closes Cook Street to traffic from Fairfield Road to Dallas Road and fills the village with live music on multiple stages, over 100 craft and artisan vendors, food trucks serving everything from wood-fired pizza to gourmet tacos, and a lineup of activities that makes it one of the best dog-friendly events on Vancouver Island. Arrive Early

The festival runs from 10 AM to 6 PM, and the first hour is the best time to visit with a dog. The crowds are thinner, the pavement is still cool from the overnight temperatures, and the dog race registration opens early. If your dog is anxious around crowds, aim for the 10 AM opening and plan to leave by lunchtime when the streets fill up.

What to Bring

• Water and a collapsible bowl: The water park oasis has fresh water, but having your own means your dog can stay hydrated anywhere on the festival route.
