James Bay
Dog Guide

Victoria's oldest neighbourhood, right on the waterfront, with some of the city's most popular off-leash zones. James Bay is where dog culture thrives.

The Vibe

Walkable, waterfront, and deeply dog-friendly.

James Bay is one of the most dog-dense neighbourhoods in Greater Victoria. Walk down any street and you will pass half a dozen dogs before you reach the corner. The combination of Beacon Hill Park, the Dallas Road waterfront, and Clover Point makes this an unbeatable area for daily dog walks.

The neighbourhood itself is flat, walkable, and close to downtown, with a mix of heritage homes and apartment buildings. It is popular with dog owners of all kinds, from puppy parents getting early socialization to retirees with senior dogs who appreciate the gentle terrain.

When it comes to dog-friendly patios, James Bay has some real gems. The Bent Mast on Simcoe Street is a neighbourhood favourite, a converted Victorian mansion with a shaded lower patio that's perfect for dogs. It has been a long-time regular spot for the Happy Homes Team, especially the lower garden patio in summer. Heron Rock Bistro is another James Bay staple, just steps from the Dallas Road trail.

Ocean Views Everywhere

The Dallas Road trail and Clover Point offer stunning views of the Olympic Mountains and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Easy Daily Walks
