Pet-A-Palooza: Day of the Dog | Sunday, August 16

This is the big one. Pet-A-Palooza returns to 1119 Dallas Road on Sunday, August 16, from 11 AM to 4 PM. It is one of Canada's largest outdoor dog festivals, and it is completely free. The event features a costume contest, a dog pie-eating contest, an 80-foot agility course, free nail trims, puppy yoga, and a ton of vendor booths with dog treats, gear, and information. Last year Ziggy spent the whole time trying to get into the dog pie-eating contest, and Sahara just wanted to find the person with the best treats. Expect hundreds of dogs and a fantastic community atmosphere right next to the Dallas Road off-leash area.

Safety tip for Pet-A-Palooza: August 16 will almost certainly be warm. Bring a collapsible water bowl and a full bottle of water. Park your car in a shaded spot and leave windows cracked if your dog will be waiting. Arrive early, the parking along Dallas Road fills up fast. If your dog is nervous around crowds, bring a quiet spot setup, a blanket in a quieter part of the event perimeter where they can settle.

Saanich Fair | Labour Day Weekend (August 29 to September 1)

Test the Pavement Before You Walk

Excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, disorientation, and bright red gums are early warning signs of heatstroke.
